Fatima Chapel

The Fatima chapel is a small votive chapel on a ridge in Saulgrub. It was built due to a pledge from a private citizen.

On the heights above Saulgrub there is a small gem. From there you can overlook the whole northern Ammer Valley. This small votive chapel was built by Joseph Miller. 1939 He had to take part in the second world war as a young man. Joseph vowed to build a chapel if he would return safely back home from the war.

After his war captivity in Minsk for 5 years, he came back to Saulgrub in 1949.

Four years later he went on a pilgrimage to the Portuguese Fatima and brought a statue of Our Lady of Fatima from there home. With the help of a fellow mason he then put his vow into action and began the construction of Fatima Chapel, which was dedicated on 12 September 1954!
