Hike – Hohe Bleick and Niederbleick

A forest hike to two summits at the northern edge of the Alps. The exposed peak of the Niederbleick in particular offers fantastic views in all directions, including over the flat Alpine foothills and lakes.

You hike begins at Unternogg Forest Lodge inn on "Königsstraße". This was a favourite stopping-off point for King Ludwig II, whenever he was on his way from Linderhof Palace to Hohenschwangau in order to supervise building works at Neuschwanstein Palace.

Shortly after the Forest Lodge, cross the Halbammer and turn left at the first fork onto a gravel forest pathway, following the sign for the "Bleick".

At the next fork but one, bear left uphill through the forest, still heading for the Bleick. Turn right at each of the next two forest pathways. You will soon cross the Leimbach, at which point you follow the somewhat steeper forest road uphill. The next left turn is a dead end, so continue straight ahead on the marked forest pathway to pass the Sauloch Hut.

At the next turn, go left to the Lähnbach Hut to reach the top of the Niederbleick via a trail that narrow and steep in some places. Because this point of the tour offers the best vantage point, it is worth pausing for a while to enjoy the extensive views of the Alpine foothills.

The imposing Wieskirche Church, which is set in a clearing, is particularly easy to make out. Pass the Bleick Hut to proceed briefly to the summit of the Hohe Bleick (10 minutes). This summit is, however, more wooded and does not offer such good views. The return route is via the Niederbleick on the path which is now familiar to you until you reach the first turn-off behind the Lähnbach Hut. You may either opt to return via the same route or else follow the steep path down to Wildsteig.

You will soon reach a ridge where some sureness of foot is required. In the valley, you will meet a forest road, on which you turn right. This virtually brings you back to Königsstraße. Turn right once more to return to your starting point.
