This is one of the most attractive mountain tours in the Ammergau Alps. Beginning near Linderhof Palace, it takes you up to the top of the Große Klammspitze via the "Brunnenkopfhäuser".

A ridge walk offering great views continues onto the Feigenkopf, and the return route passes through the idyllic Säger Valley. The final ascent to the Große Klammspitze and the ridge walk to the Feigenkopf mean that the tour is not appropriate for inexperienced hikers.

The tour begins either at the free car park beyond Linderhof Palace at the entrance to Säger Valley or at Linderhof Palace itself (bus stop and car park for which a charge is made).

From the car park at the end of Säger Valley, follow the forest pathway into the woods and, after crossing a bridge, immediately turn right towards Linderhof Palace. The climb to the "Brunnenkopfhäuser" begins on a broad and shady path. The "Brunnenkopfhäuser" is the only possible refreshment stop on the tour, unless you later make a diversion to the "Kenzenhütte".

If you wish to conquer your first summit of the day whilst at the Brunnenkopfhäuser, follow the steep path up to the Brunnenkopf. Returning to the Brunnenkopfhäuser, follow the steep path towards the Große Klammspitze. After half of this section, you may choose to make a diversion over challenging terrain to the Kleine Klammspitze (only recommended for experience mountaineers). Otherwise follow the marked trail into the corrie under the Große Klammspitze and proceed up to the summit.

The fantastic views you will now enjoy make this the ideal place to stop for a rest. Then continue along the ridge to the Feigenkopf. There are a number of rocky sections which require sureness of foot, and there is also one area with a wire rope.

After the elongated Feigenkopf, the route leads comfortably down from the ridge to the "Hirschwanghütte", which is unstaffed. The route now becomes steeper again. A sloping meadow will take you down to the Bäckenalm col.

From here, a steep path leads on into the long Säger Valley. This trail later becomes a forest pathway, via which you return to the valley and to your original starting point.
