Short and sweet ski tout up onto one of the "home mountains" of Oberammergau

The course was developed in 2015 by the German Alpine Association working in conjunction with local representatives (forestry, hunting and farmers) as part of the “Environmentally friendly mountain skiing and climbing” project.

The tour begins at the northern edge of Oberammergau at the end of Rottstraße. If there is enough snow, strap on your skis at the car and proceed along Romanshöhenweg heading in the direction of the Romanshöhe. After 150 metres, cross the Eselaine stream and turn right. You then follow the road staright ahead for approximately 600 metres, when
you will enter open terrain. Ascend by following the fall line between two rift valleys, the Lainegraben and the Schnitzelgraben. You will also cross the winter hiking trail "Altherrenweg".
You will soon enter the mountain forest. Keep following the fall line, passing two forest roads. After the second of these, the tour leads off to the right. A few hundred metres further, you will enter a clearing, from where a cutting in the forest takes you up to the summit of the Großer Aufacker.
Descent back into the valley is via the same route taken uphill.
