Both beginners and advanced hikers will get their money's worth on a winter hike in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park.
It takes around 7 hours to complete the 2 km long, easy loop that starts at the Tannenbankerllift car park in Bad Kohlgrub. It takes you east of Bad Kohlgrub past snow-covered meadows and forests at the foot of the Hörnles. You always hike a long loop with a view of the Hörnle and finally return through the town center to the starting point at the parking lot. The blue sign with the snowflake and the number 11 shows you the way.
The Kammerl round (No. 9) is similar in length to the round in Bad Kohlgrub just presented. Here too you will be on the road for a good two hours. This tour gives you beautiful views from the Wetzsteinrücken of the Hörnle and the surrounding mountains. It is also worth taking a detour to the Fatima Chapel near Saulgrub. You will also pass the historic Kammerl power plant and the sensory path.
A detour to the Soier See in Bad Bayersoien should definitely not be missed during your stay in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park. There you can take a leisurely stroll around the lake on winter hike number 17. The path, which is only 2 km long, is flat throughout. Perfect for a short walk in the cold winter air for young and old!
The Altherrenweg (No. 4) is also one of the most popular (winter) hikes in the nature park! During your hike you will be rewarded with beautiful views of Ober- and Unterammergau and the Kofel. If you don't want to hike the entire 10 kilometers, you can return from Unterammergau to Oberammergau by bus or train.
The Sonnenweg is a flat winter hiking trail through the Weidmoos nature reserve and through the Graswangtal to Linderhof Castle! A visit to Linderhof Castle and the park is also worthwhile in winter! You can also take bus number 9622 on the way back.
On this short but beautiful winter hiking trail (Snowflake No. 2) you hike above Ettal with a view of the monastery and through the forest. It's worth taking a detour to Ettal Monastery and visiting the inner courtyard and the basilica.
