When the new year is just around the corner, colorful hot air balloons rise into the sky every day in the Ammergau Alps - a scene reminiscent of the famous balloon rides in Cappadocia, only in the middle of Bavaria! The winter balloon days from December 27th to January 5th let you enjoy winter from above and offer wide views of the Alpine foothills in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park.
A highlight of the balloon days is the balloon glow at Ettal Monastery. As dusk sets in, the balloons are lit on the ground in the monastery courtyard and turn into glowing giants that shine in the darkness. The Night of 1000 Lights in Bad Kohlgrub is also a must: hundreds of small lights point the way to the spa gardens, where the balloon glow also takes place.
Dates:
- on December 28, 2024 between 17.00:19.30 p.m. and XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. in the courtyard of Ettal Monastery
- on December 30, 2024 at the “Night of 1000 Lights” from 17.00 p.m. in the Bad Kohlgrub spa park
And for those who want to go high, there is the option of taking a ride in one of the balloons themselves. Together with experienced pilots, you will glide or fly through the skies and get a panoramic view of the Alps and the Ammer Valley. At the end of the day, there is the traditional "balloonist baptism" where you will receive a certificate with a baptismal name that describes your first balloon flight.
Whether you admire the balloons from the ground or take off yourself: the Winter Balloon Days are an event that makes winter in the Ammergau Alps even more magical. Don't miss out on this experience and experience the Alps in a completely new way.
