Greenwood workshop in the afternoon with Ruth Strohmeier

We are offering this event as part of the KSJ Bayersoien holiday program for 2026.
Welcome to the colorful green wood workshop!
We carve with fresh branch wood, also called greenwood, which is excellent for carving. Participants learn the thumb carving technique, which allows for the safe and precise carving of patterns and shapes. We also split, saw, turn, and drill, and participants create small works of art according to their skills and abilities. We also work on the drawbenches and the pole lathe that I built myself, which operate entirely without electricity, and you can experience how people used to work with wood.
Everyone can draw inspiration from a variety of examples or let their own imagination run wild and create an individual design.
If desired, the carvings can then be painted or left in their natural form.
At the end, the participants naturally take their carved works, such as gnomes, keychains, peeping toms, stamps, elderberry whistles, spoons or self-designed objects, home with them.
Children aged 5-8 must be accompanied by an adult. Children aged 8 and over may participate alone. The maximum number of participants is 15.
The woodwork is carried out at your own risk and under supervision.
