Team Ammertal - Clear view for Hochbergwiesen-Schwenden of species-rich pastures

Within the nature park area, there are 46 alpine pastures, half of which are still in use today. The regional alpine farming differs from most Upper Bavarian alpine pastures in its predominance of cooperatively organized grazing practices. The alpine pastures of the Laber, Hörnle, Kuh, Ober, and Löser valleys provide biodiverse habitats that would become overgrown without management. With a forest cover of 52%, the nature park has a relatively high proportion compared to Bavaria as a whole (approximately 30%), making the preservation of open landscapes of paramount importance.
Even at the foot of the mountains, there are pasture areas that become overgrown without maintenance. To preserve these cultural landscapes, the Ammertal team helps small farms with pasture management.
 
When? Saturday, August 29 | 08:00 a.m. to approximately 14:00 p.m.
Meeting point? Kappl parking lot in Unterammergau
Equipment? Please bring: suitable work clothes, work gloves, sturdy, ankle-high, waterproof footwear, and sun or rain protection if necessary.
Work? Clearing a pasture area in Unterammergau using chainsaws, hand shears and saws, as well as stacking and removing the wood.
Goal? Preservation of species-rich pastureland.
Requirements? Are you comfortable moving confidently in hilly terrain, even off-road, and fit for approximately 4 hours of moderate physical work? Then we look forward to your help!
Weather? The operation will take place regardless of the weather. Cancellations are possible if thunderstorms, storms, or heavy rain are forecast.

The start time may change depending on the weather and local conditions. More detailed information will be sent by email before the event begins.
