Hand-carved Oberammergau – The St. Lukas Association

The art of wood carving characterizes Oberammergau for more than 500 years

Since 1836, the St. Luke's Association has been promoting and preserving this traditional craft. Named after Saint Luke, the patron saint of artists, the association originally began as a cooperative to support artisans in the event of occupational accidents. Over time, however, it developed into an important platform for the marketing and presentation of woodcarving, for example through the Christmas Nativity Trail in Oberammergau.

The works of the club members are characterized by their masterly craftsmanship and proudly bear the stamp “Hand-carved Oberammergau”. The name says it all: Every single work of these wood sculptors is handmade. And every single piece is unique.

The members of the association look forward to your visit! Discover traditional and modern Christian art, everyday depictions and unique wooden toys such as the Oberammergau Schnürlkasperl. And if you are interested in a custom-made item, please feel free to ask the artists.
