Bad Bayersoien village street

In early times, Bayersoien was the Roman station "Ad Seun" (near the lakes, 15 BC). The name is derived from the location of the village, as there were originally two lakes in Bad Bayersoien. The second, upper lake was drained in 1803 to create litter meadows.

In Roman times, a road called "Via Claudia" led from Brenner via "Parthanum" (Partenkirchen), "Cofeliacus" (Oberammergau) and via "Ad Seun" (Bayersoien) to "Augusta Vindelikorum", today's Augsburg. When walking through the village street of Bad Bayersoien you will see the Rottstein (Dorfstr. 41, in front of “Haus Dodl”), which is a reminder of the Rott privilege of Emperor Ludwig of Bavaria from 1332.

The office of salt factor was held by the “Bierling” merchant family from Bayersoien. They were the most important family in the town for over four centuries.

The museum in the Bierlinghaus (also on Dorfstrasse) provides a clear account of the time and the life of the family with original inventory.
