Forestry Department

The forester's lodge was built in 1763 as a private residence by parish priest Joseph Ignaz Daser (1724–1785) and bequeathed to Ettal Abbey after his death. From 85 to 1803, it served as the Ettal judge's residence, and in 1803 it became Bavarian state property. From 1803 to 1830 , it was known as the "Prelate's House," and its guests included Montgelas in 1815 and King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria in 1820. Since 30, the house has been the headquarters of the State Forestry Administration. The exterior paintings, dating from before 1875, are by the "Lüftlmaler" (a type of Bavarian fresco painter) Franz Seraph Zwinck. The hunting scenes on the west side were painted by Hartmann in 1899.
