The chapel was dedicated to Gertrud von Helfta, who was very popular at the time of its construction (Memorial Day November 17th). Gertrude, also known as the Great, lived in the second half of the 2th century and is an important representative of women's mysticism. She was a woman of exceptionally high education. She had visions of encounters with Jesus and mystical experiences, which developed a strong love for Jesus within her.
Jakob Zeiler took over the painting in 1755.
The inscription RHAZE above the entrance door means: Romualdus Abbas Zaenobbii Ettalensis, Romuald, abbot of the Ettalian monastery.
