When people used to talk about clocks, they generally spoke of “sundials”, because it was only at the beginning of the 19th century that clocks as we know them today were manufactured.
Today, sundials are mainly found as decorations on special buildings or places. The Bayersoi master stonemason Karl Kunert made three special specimens with his astronomical knowledge and his outstanding craftsmanship.
Since July 2010, in addition to two other beautiful specimens, the “Cuboid with five dials", the "Slanted wagon wheel' and the 'Globe sundial".
Description of the watches:
Cuboid with five dials
The granite sundial has five sculpturally incorporated dials. In addition to a time table, Karl Kunert also incorporated a functional description into the watch.
Slanted wagon wheel
The so-called wagon wheel sundial rests on a 127 cm high base. Important information about the function of the sundial is included on each page. The master stonemason carved over 1700 letters into the granite just to describe the figure eight loop.
The dial of the sundial has a diameter of 100 cm and has two sculpturally carved equator-parallel dials:
One for summer time and one for winter time.
Globe sundial
The sphere of the globe sundial has a diameter of 60 cm. By turning a stainless steel bracket, the viewer can either read summer time or Central European time. The chosen height of the base means that almost every viewer can see the top of the ball.
