Back and forth through the Ammer Mountains

Cross-border bus connection Oberau – Reutte

From May 01, 2026, the bus route from Oberau train station via Ettal and Linderhof, past Plansee and Ehrenberg Castle to Reutte, will be reinstated. This route will run hourly on weekends and public holidays, offering the ideal opportunity to visit the royal castles of Linderhof and Neuschwanstein without a car, enjoy a leisurely stroll around Plansee, or go for a hike. The new route also transports hikers from the border back to the Graswang Valley or to the train station (bicycles cannot be transported).
If you have a guest card, the bus is free for you within MVV zones 5 to 12.

It starts at Reutte train station and leads via Breitenwang to Plansee and further through the Graswangtal to Linderhof Castle and Ettal. Oberau train station is served in the morning and evening so that day visitors from the greater Munich area can travel to the heart of the Ammer Mountains in less than 2 hours. Arrivals and departures in Reutte are also perfectly aligned with the train timetable. The buses run between 8 a.m. and 19 p.m., so that longer mountain tours are also possible for locals and guests without their own car.

The financing is shared by the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the Bavarian side and the Reutte Tourism Association, the municipalities of Breitenwang and Reutte on the Tyrolean side. The new route closes a key gap in the regional bus network. Now, locals and visitors can travel to Plansee for swimming or hike throughout the Ammer Mountains using the new bus lines.
