STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® celebrates its premiere in Oberammergau

STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® is stopping by the Ammergau Alps and celebrating a sporting premiere. The first of three semifinals of the DACH Championship will begin there on May 17th. Lumberjacks from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland will compete at the Passion Play Theater in Oberammergau to kick off the newly launched competition series. Up to 16 athletes – the so-called Pros – will compete in six disciplines with axe and saw. In each round, they will collect points that determine their place in the grand finale at the end of August in Switzerland. In addition to the men, women will also compete: athletes from the DACH region will face international exchange athletes.

Visitors can also try it out: Under the guidance of the athletes, they can use the Single Buck – a two-meter-long handsaw – to cut their own tree slice, a “cookie,” and take it home as a souvenir.

There is also a lot to do around the Passion Play Theatre on this day, with a garden party and various stations for young and old.

STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® stands for thrilling extreme sports and international competitions in competitive logging. The sport's roots lie in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the USA. The season's highlight is the Individual and Team World Championships, where the best athletes have the chance to demonstrate their skills on the big stage.

For schoolchildren, students, and people with severe disabilities, there is a reduced ticket price of €10. Admission is free for children up to 6 years old.

Tickets can be purchased online until 08:00 a.m. on the day of the event; the box office will be open on site from 09:00 a.m.
