Two highlights in one tour! Summit experience with short scrambles on the Kofel and a stop at the Kolbensattelhütte.

As soon as you start the climb to the Kofel, you are on historically interesting Terrain.

Numerous objects were found on the left-hand side of the Döttenbichl that were used by the 19th Roman Legion come. It came under the leadership of Drusus in 15 BC. BC on the Alpine campaign passed here and was later used by Varus im Teutoburger Wald destroyed.

You have one from the Kofel summit magnificent view in several directions. North on that Powder moss and  Ammertal, to the southeast to Weidmoos. The two fens emerged from an Ice Age glacial lake. The rock-free, wooded field to the east was hardly forested 100 years ago - more than 1000 cattle and sheep grazed on its slopes.

You can also enjoy the beautiful view from there High path over to the Kolbensattelhütte enjoy. The path takes you through shady areas Mixed mountain forest. This forest form is typical of the Northern Alps and consists of spruce, beech, silver fir, sycamore maple, wych elm and ash.

Directions

The Kofel (1342 m) is also known by locals as the Oberammergau Matterhorn designated. This striking tine is a promising intermediate destination on our way to Kolbensattelhütte.

From the valley station of the Piston chairlift In Oberammergau you first go past the bike park to Grotto path and continue until Döttenbichl.

At Döttenbichl, past a large clearing, turn diagonally right across a meadow up to a bench in the forest. From here the path goes in numerous serpentines steeply up the mountain forest. You reach it over a scree and past rock faces Kofel Saddle. From here the more demanding part of the tour begins. After a few minutes the first ones begin passages secured by wire ropes, which offer helpful support up to the summit of the Kofel. The effort is worth it. After about 20 minutes, the summit of the Kofel is reached via the via ferrata.

The descent takes place again via the small one ferrata to the Kofelsattel. From here it goes over the Königssteig on a beautiful one High-altitude panoramic path to the Kolbensattelhütte. After a stop at the Kolbensattelhütte, it takes about an hour to return to the parking lot. You can also choose the Alpine Coaster for a quick descent.
