Directions
Away from the main road, the route climbs up gravel paths to above Linderhof Castle. Here you can enjoy a view of the castle and the park through which the route leads. Caution is advised, because closer to the castle you have to push your bike. After the castle you go back into the forest, with a view of the mountains, and you soon turn right along the Elmaubach.
You follow the Elmaugries, which is an alternating narrow and wide gravel bed of the stream, a special primeval landscape. In the Graswang valley, the route goes steadily uphill, with the gradient reaching over 10% in the last section. The climb is worth it, because the view of the mountains is extremely impressive. This is followed by a long descent on gravel to the Loisach valley.
The route continues quickly on a cycle path to Breitenau and past Garmisch-Partenkirchen. You follow the cycle path next to the B2 with a steady incline until you reach the turnoff to Klais. Here you have the opportunity to visit the "original" Roman road Via Retia.
The route then takes you on a panoramic route to Kranzbach and through idyllic forest on perfect asphalt to Elmau Castle. From there, the route continues into a deep valley on gravel, always slightly uphill. Here you pass the beautiful Ferchensee, in which the rugged mountain peaks are reflected. The final descent to Mittenwald also offers a view of the Lautersee.
