Meditation path Ammergau Alps natural historical milestones & sources of strength for a free spirit
To escape the here and now while looking at wonderful natural monuments, the 85 kilometer long Ammergau Alps meditation trail gives you the perfect direction. After an initial sacred retreat in the Wieskirche - a small, magnificent pilgrimage church in the Rococo style - Linderhof Castle with its magnificent gardens is your destination.

From the Passion theater walk to the Pilate House and follow Verlegergasse to the right (southwest), cross Eugen-Papst-Straße and go straight on Pürschlingweg to Ammerufer.
By closing the bridge you now have two possible ways to reach the crucifixion group.
a) You walk right along the Ammer to the Ammerbrücke. Then go left over the bridge and immediately left again after the bridge and reach the Ammer footpath opposite. At the level of the bridge, a small path branches off to the right. After turning left, the path slowly climbs. You will come to a road and follow it to the right to Osterbichl.
After a few minutes you will reach the monumental crucifixion group.
b) Turn left and walk to the large Ammer Bridge. Here you go to the right and cross the river. Then go straight on König-Ludwig-Straße. Follow this road up to the right until you reach Osterbichl. A few minutes later you will reach the monumental crucifixion group via the small footpath.
The starting point of the tour is the crucifixion group in Oberammergau. The path runs behind the crucifixion group over the Kolben ski run to the Grottenweg.
Continuing on this path you will soon reach a higher level, the Kälberplatte. Opposite, a wooden sign shows the way to Döttenbichl.
You follow the climb to the left into the forest up to a hill. It now goes downhill again for a short distance, partly marked with a yellow dagger, until you reach the excavation site.
From Döttenbichl downhill to the asphalt road and turn left there. After walking under the bridge, go left up the footpath to the bridge and cross it. After crossing the bridge, immediately walk down to the left, under the bridge and continue your way upstream along the Ammer. At the next intersection keep left. The underpass takes you back to the outskirts of Oberammergau.
Here you follow the signs to Vogelherdweg, cross the local access road and approach the rock face below the Laber along the main road. Continue uphill on a forest path until you reach a fork where you keep left and after a few steps you will have your first view of Ettal.
Halfway up, the Vogelherdweg leads above the town and the monastery to the Ettal Monastery.

Arrival & Parking
The Ammergau Alps Nature Park can be easily reached by train from Munich. In Murnau you get on the regional train (Ammertalbahn) and after a journey with fantastic views of the Alps you reach the towns of Bad Kohlgrub, Saulgrub, Altenau, Unterammergau and Oberammergau.

Leave the train station and follow the main street towards the east/town center. After crossing the Ammer, follow it north until the next junction on the right. You should now be able to see the breathtaking Passion Theater. The stage begins at the Passion Theater.
