Directions

Coming from the town center or Ammergauer Haus, you cycle north on the main road and stay on it until you reach the Ammer.

Just before the bridge, turn right into the cycle path and ride along the embankment, in the direction of flow of the Ammer, through it “Pulvermoos” to Unterammergau. Shortly before Unterammergau, carefully cross the railway tracks, then turn right on the main road to the Ammer Bridge.

Here you cross the federal highway B 23 and continue until you leave the town. A cycle path now begins there, which after about 600 m leads past the sports field into the quiet connecting road to “Altenau”. Follow this road to Altenau.

You drive through the town in the direction “Unternogg” to the “Steinsdorfer Holz-Fachmarkt”. After a short climb, turn left onto the field path towards Scherenau/Unterammergau. Follow this path to the Scherenau farms.

Shortly before Scherenau you have to cross the Ammer through a ford (not recommended with an e-bike). In Scherenau keep right and continue on the asphalt road to Unterammergau. From Unterammergau you now use the cycle path along the federal road B 23 back to Oberammergau.

Our tip

In Altenau it's worth stopping off "village landlord". Here you can fortify yourself for the onward journey with traditional Bavarian cuisine or seasonal delicacies. The inn in the center of the village was renovated and brought back to life as a joint effort by the villagers.
