Beautiful tour with many small peaks - but the panorama is always very large.

Please avoid the area between the Middle Hörnle and Drei Marken from dusk to dawn. See photo

Hiking with snowshoes over the Hörnle Alm and the Hinterer Hörnle to the subsequent summit destination, the Stierkopf, is one of the most beautiful snowshoe hikes in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park.

The descent from the Stierkopf goes over the Drei Marken in the forest down to Unterammergau.

This tour was developed as part of the “environmentally friendly ski mountaineering” project German Alpine Club for the year 2015 in collaboration with local representatives (forestry, hunting and farmers).

Please respect existing wildlife resting areas and avoid the time between dusk and dawn, as wild animals are particularly vulnerable to disturbance at this time.

Directions

On this snowshoe tour starting at the Kappelkirche in Unterammergau, you first go up to the Hörnle-Alm (alternatively, you can also take the suspension railway up from Bad Kohlgrub).

From the Hörnle-Alm in an easterly direction you reach the Hinterer Hörnle. We continue further south steep slope up to the summit of the Stierkopf. From here you walk downhill to the "Three brands" and further into the valley to Unterammergau.

Those who have taken the Hörnle cable car up (please note: the cable car is out of service until mid-2026 due to renovations) can easily return to their starting point in Bad Kohlgrub by train. The train journey is free with the guest card.

The tour is also possible in the opposite direction.
