Snowshoe tour for beginners through dreamy mountain forests

The tour up the toboggan run and through secluded mountain forest to the Kolbensattel hut is particularly suitable for beginners who want to familiarize themselves with the technique of snowshoeing . After a break in the cozy Kolbensattel hut, the descent follows the ski touring trail alongside the ski slope.

The tour route was created in 2015 as part of the "Environmentally Friendly Ski Mountaineering" project of the German Alpine Club in cooperation with local representatives (forestry, hunting and farming).

Please respect existing wildlife resting areas and avoid the time between dusk and dawn, as wild animals are particularly vulnerable to disturbance at this time.

Directions

The ascent begins towards the Pürschling-Haus via the forest road, which is also used as a toboggan run. Watch out for oncoming traffic! At the large junction where the path through the Schleifmühlklamm joins from below, turn left and hike through secluded mountain forest , gently uphill to the Kolbensattelhütte.

The descent follows the ascent track of the ski touring trail (signposted) down into the valley. Please ensure that you always descend alongside the ascent track for ski tourers to avoid damaging the trail.

From the valley station of the Kolben chairlift in Oberammergau, it takes 30 minutes to walk to the starting point at the Pürschling car park in Unterammergau . You can also take the bus which departs from the nearby train station in Oberammergau.
