Hike the Ammergau Alps Nature Park with special views

On this stage you hike through beautiful mountain forests, up the Pürschling and all the way to Unterammergau. Wonderful views - both of yesterday and of the stages ahead of us - await today! But first we thoroughly enjoy the wonderful mountain forest that leads up to the August Schuster House – our first stopover for today.

Good to know

Directions

Directly at Linderhof Castle, we follow the signposts on the west side and suddenly dive into the forest. We soon leave the wide forest path and climb up a narrow path. We cross a wide road twice before hiking completely in lonely nature. You go up wonderful forest paths over roots and stones until the area slowly opens up at the height of the Kälberalm. More and more often we catch wonderful views of yesterday's stage, including a view of the impressive Zugspitze. How different she looks from this perspective!

A final steep section leads us onto the well-known Maximiliansweg, which takes us partly through steep grassy slopes and below steep rock faces directly to the August Schuster House. Our tip: In addition to a detour to its catered terrace, you can also take a detour up to the Teufelstättkopf (an additional 200 meters in altitude) or to the pre-peak of the Pürschling - the latter can be climbed with almost no additional meters in altitude, but requires a bit of sure-footedness on the last one meters. It also helps to have a head for heights on the rock-framed summit. However, the view is beautiful. From here it is less demanding on wide forest roads down towards Langenthal-Alm and from there always along the stream to Unterammergau. Insider tip: If you still have motivation there, you should definitely take the detour through the Schleifmühlenklamm - this only takes a little longer and you can enjoy beautiful waterfalls and relics from earlier times when this gorge was used to produce whetstones - both as a stone supplier also as a drive for the mills. From the large parking lot at the foot of our hiking trail we keep straight ahead and reach Unterammergau directly.
