Directions
We leave the small Bad Kohlgrub to the north and suddenly find ourselves in a typically rural foothills of the Alps: extensive pastures stretch across the gentle hills, here and there there is a farm or a small village in between. We pass beautiful viewing benches and can see Lake Staffelsee in the distance. A little way past the rustic village of Spittelsberg we reach a quiet forest, which we cross without too many differences in altitude.
Shortly before we reach Lake Staffelsee, we turn abruptly and now hike through fabulous moorland landscapes towards Uffing am Staffelsee. Halfway through, the path takes us directly to the shore of the lake - from here there are numerous swimming opportunities all the way to the north bank. On the eastern edge of Uffing we follow the train tracks for a while before we reach Rieden Castle. It was built in the 18th century and is particularly notable for its yellow color and striking towers - however, it is privately inhabited and therefore cannot be visited. Our promising onward route now takes us in the middle of wide meadows towards Seehausen, where we can take a final break on a small headland with seating near the boat dock. From here we hike through picturesque boathouses and later through a high belt of reeds to the outskirts of Murnau, from where the signposts show us the direction to the center.
