Easy hike through the Ammergau Alps Nature Park, with a detour over the Hörnle and the associated summit bliss to Bad Kohlgrub.

The section of the route takes us around the Hörnle, where different route variants can be chosen. Thanks to a detour to a promising summit, this stage gives us a view of the foothills of the Alps and Lake Staffelsee. Asphalt roads, forest paths and wonderful paths alternate along the route. An inconspicuous, picturesque ravine just before Bad Kohlgrub gives us a surprisingly beautiful end to this stage.

Directions

We can already see our first intermediate destination from Unterammergau: The three forested peaks - Vorderes, Mittleres and Hinteres Hörnle - stand with great views in the first row of the Alps and can now be combined as you wish or simply exchanged for a stop at the Hörnlehütte . Until we reach the steep forest up there, asphalt roads, forest paths and wonderful paths alternate - the striking chapel halfway there not only serves as a guide, but also as the first opportunity to take a break. As soon as we have reached the forest, the route is partly steep and over roots directly up to the Hörnlehütte, with a small treeless hill giving us some variety.

From the Hörnlehütte you can either climb to the right along mainly wide forest paths and well-trodden paths to the downstream peaks, or we head north to descend directly to Bad Kohlgrub. To do this, we first follow the lift system and keep left at its lower station in a forest aisle, which serves as a ski slope in winter. Halfway there we leave it to the left into the forest and first reach Sonneneck and then Sonnen. Once again we keep to the right in the village, cross a stream and reach Guggenberg a short time later. From here we follow the asphalt road first to Obernau and turn right next to the stream into a lonely ravine. A wonderful avenue with viewing benches leads us to another stream and a little later to Bad Kohlgrub, the destination of today's stage.

Our tip

Located in the middle of the Ammergau Alps Nature Park Zeitberg - one of the four peaks on Bad Kohlgrub's local mountain Hörnle. Five quiet zones invite you to pause. The time out on the mountain offers the opportunity to breathe deeply and switch off from everyday life.

safety instructions

No particular technical difficulties. In summer, make sure you have enough fluids; the ascent is on the south side.
