Panoramic run with summit bliss: The alpine pasture loop at Hörnle is a trail run with approximately 800 meters of elevation gain, 360-degree views and varied paths.

Approximately 12 km and 800 meters of elevation gain – these are the key facts for this hike to the Hörnle peaks. A stop at the Hörnle Hut is included. From the Hörnle cable car valley station, the route first leads to the Zeitberg and then, depending on your preference, continues to the three Hörnle peaks.

Directions

The run starts at the Hörnle cable car parking lot. Alternatively, you can also start from the Kurhaus train station. From the parking lot, follow the purple signs with the cow heads. After climbing approximately 500 meters in altitude, you'll reach the first summit, the Zeitberg. On clear days, you can see across the Ammersee, Staffelsee, and Starnberger See all the way to Munich. If you're feeling hungry, you can stop for refreshments at the Hörnle Hut, which is open almost year-round.

The trail over the Hörnle peaks (Vorderes, Mittleres, Hinteres Hörnle) is the most playful part of the loop: slightly technical, undulating and with constantly changing perspectives – exactly what trail runners love.

The downhill section is quite challenging: narrow, partly rooty, and less frequented – you'll need sure footing and focus here. Afterwards, you'll return to faster forest roads towards the valley, where you can enjoy a relaxed finish to the loop.

How to find us

From Munich: Take the A95 to exit [9] Sindelsdorf. Then via Murnau to Bad Kohlgrub, turn left in the upper spa area (signposted) and via Badstraße to the valley station on Fallerstraße.

From Augsburg / Landsberg / Schongau: Take the B17, B472 and B23 to Saulgrub. Then head towards Bad Kohlgrub, turn right approximately 300 meters after entering the town (signposted) and continue along Badstraße to the valley station on Fallerstraße.

There are the following paid parking options in the area around the Hörnle suspension railway:

- Tannenbankerlift car park, Stickelsgrabenstrasse (no access for buses due to height restrictions!)

- In signposted parking spaces along Fallerstrasse

Public transportation

Train stop: Bad Kohlgrub Kurhaus (required stop) (20 min. walk to the starting point)

Oberammergau - Bad Kohlgrub - Murnau

Follow Saulgruber Straße east. Turn right onto Badstraße heading south. Follow Badstraße until it becomes Fallerstraße. Follow Fallerstraße until the Hörnlebahn parking lot appears on your right (starting point).
