Trail running enjoyment in the Ammer Valley: This varied circular tour combines moorland landscapes, swimming opportunities and nature experiences over almost half a marathon distance.

This moderately difficult trail running loop in the north of the Ammergau Alps Nature Park offers everything that makes a runner's heart beat faster: varied terrain, quiet moorland areas and repeatedly impressive views of the pre-Alpine landscape around Saulgrub, Bad Bayersoien and Bad Kohlgrub.

Directions

You start at the train station in Saulgrub. From there, head towards Wetzsteinweg. The path is like a viewing platform, offering panoramic views of the entire Ammergau Alps. Passing Acheleschwaig, you initially descend on a paved road to the Ammer River and the Kammerl power plant (a visit is highly recommended if it's open!). After the Kammerl power plant, keep right and you'll reach a lovely path towards Hargenwies. From there, a short stretch along a quiet road leads to Kreut and down to the idyllic Soyer Mill. You'll cross the Ammer once more. Soon you'll reach the center of Bad Bayersoien, where you can stop for refreshments at one of the restaurants. The route continues past Lake Soier into the moorland. Wide forest tracks lead you to Hinterkehr (a district of Bad Kohlgrub), and from there you'll follow the railway line back to your starting point.
