This half-marathon-length valley loop takes you past the Ammer springs and Ettal Abbey. With a moderate 260 meters of elevation gain, it's ideal for a long training run...

The approximately 21 km route leads via the Grottenweg (Grotto Trail) near Oberammergau, past the Ammer springs and through the village of Graswang to Ettal. The loop then returns to Oberammergau via the Ettaler Höhenweg (Ettal High Trail) and the Vogelherdweg (Bird Herd Trail).

Directions

You start at the train station in Oberammergau. The trail leads along the Grotto Trail, past the Crucifixion Group, towards Graswang. Passing the Ammer springs, you reach this small, idyllic village. Continue via Dickelschwaig towards Ettal. Passing the monastery, you soon reach the Ettal High Trail. From there, you have a fantastic view of the monastery. The Vogelherd Trail leads back to Oberammergau. Following the Ammer River, you return to your starting point.
