Trail running in the Ammergau Alps

Run the alps, feel the nature!

Lots of trail running. Even more nature.

The Ammergau Alps are among the most pristine natural and mountain landscapes in Bavaria. Between rolling hills, secluded ridge trails, steep climbs and scenic high-altitude paths, trail runners will find perfect conditions for varied runs – whether beginner or ambitious ultra runner.

The Alpine foothills around Bad Bayersoien, Bad Kohlgrub, and Saulgrub are ideal for both easy and challenging runs. The terrain becomes more alpine around Unterammergau, Oberammergau, and Ettal. Here, you have the opportunity to rack up elevation gain, enjoy a Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake) in a mountain hut, and experience the solitude of the mountains. This last point is precisely what makes the Ammergau Alps Nature Park so special. Here, you can still find those quiet moments, deep breaths, and a feeling of freedom. The perfect place for runners looking to escape the everyday grind.
