The clean-up event in
Ammergau Alps Nature Park

Working together to clean up nature – that was the basic idea behind the first Valley Green Up in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park, which was attended by around 200 hiking enthusiasts. The three partners – Ammergau Alps Nature Park, the company Ziener, and the King Ludwig Lauf eV jointly launched the day of action in 2021.

Together with you, we want to clean up the 227 square kilometer nature park.

Every hand can help - whether big or small.

Action Day 2026

Join us on June 20, 2026, for one of the 40 mountain tours, hikes and themed trails and help us to free the Ammergau Alps Nature Park from trash.

Register, choose your starting point and equipment pick-up location, and select your tour in the Ammergau Alps.

We will provide you with your starter package in either Oberammergau or Bad Kohlgrub, containing everything you need to participate and have fun.

Schedule of the Valley Green Up Action Day

7 - 12 clock Starter packages can be picked up at the tourist information office in Oberammergau or from 9 am to 12 pm at the tourist information office in Bad Kohlgrub.
Independent hiking tour in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park (note tour selection!)
14 - 16 clock Get-together with the organizers and nature park rangers (food and drinks included)
All participants receive a free litter collection kit including small tongs and trash bags. They also receive other useful items for the tour, such as hiking maps.

Those who register online can immediately choose their favorite route. Depending on personal preference, there are tours ranging from flat to alpine, suitable for every fitness level and age.

What is Valley Green Up?

Valley Green Up is about keeping the Ammergau Alps Nature Park as beautiful as we know it and giving something back to nature.

It is designed as a full-day event for young and old: Collecting trash together with friends or family on one of the many tours, followed by a get-together with participants and organizers that invites you to linger and exchange ideas.

When do I start my chosen tour?

You can pick up your starter kit at the Oberammergau Tourist Information Office (from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.) or at the Bad Kohlgrub Tourist Information Office (from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.). Otherwise, you are completely free to plan your trip as you wish and can start whenever you like.

From 2 pm to 4 pm there will be a get-together in Oberammergau; attendance is optional, and if you finish your tour at 2:30 pm, that's no problem either. We look forward to seeing everyone who comes along and reminisces about the day with us.

Where do I take the collected trash?

You can leave your collected trash at the designated collection points. These are located at the trailhead parking lots (starting points for the hikes) and are marked with a sign bearing the Valley Green Up logo. We will then collect the trash bags from these points. If you find something larger, please note its location and let us know afterwards.

Where can I get the litter collection gadgets or my equipment for the day?

Everything you need for collecting trash (pliers, trash bags and other useful items) will be provided by us in the morning.

Depending on where your tour starts, you can pick up the starter package in the Tourist Information Bad Kohlgrub (9 a.m. - 12 p.m.) or in the Tourist Information Oberammergau (7 am - 12 pm) pick up:

Pick-up Oberammergau → Tours starting from Ettal/Graswang, Oberammergau, Unterammergau
Pick-up in Bad Kohlgrub → Tours starting in Bad Bayersoien, Bad Kohlgrub, Saulgrub/Altenau
