There are five landscapes in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park: moors, meadows, wild rivers, forests and mountains. There is hardly any other region in which so many different landscapes are concentrated in such a small area as in the Ammertal. Since August 2017, the region has had the title “Ammergau Alps Nature Park. The goal is to protect the outstanding cultural landscape of Ammergau and at the same time make it possible for guests interested in nature to experience it.

The Ammergau Alps – situated between Germanys' highest mountain, the Zugspitze and the fairy tale castle Neuschwanstein in the heart of the Bavarian Alps – stands for the unique combination of a pristine mountain environment with cultural treasures along with a touristic infrastructure that is environmentally friendly.

Facts about the Ammergau Alps Nature Park (ENG)

227 square km, more precisely the municipalities of Oberammergau, Unterammergau, Ettal, Saulgrub, Bad Kohlgrub and Bad Bayersoien as well as the municipality free area Ettaler Forst, were nominated “Ammergau Alps Nature Park” in August 2017.
