The Ammergau Alps Nature Park in the Zugspitze region is ideal for winter hiking, as the valley trails with their views of the surrounding mountains in the Bavarian Alpine foothills provide a perfect backdrop. Cross-country ski trails, in the home of the famous King Ludwig Run, extend across the entire Ammer Valley when snow conditions are good. Those who enjoy tobogganing, ice skating, snowshoeing through the winter landscape, or ski touring will also find a wide range of activities in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park. Downhill skiers can enjoy themselves at the Wank lifts, on the Steckenberg, or on the Hörnle. When there's plenty of snow, the Laber is a fantastic freeride area.

For a different kind of descent, try the Alpine Coaster from Kolbensattel, which reaches speeds of up to 40 km/h and is also open in winter.
