The Hörnle consists of three peaks: Vorderes Hörnle (1484 m) Middle Hörnle (1496 m) and Posterior hornle (1548 m).
The Hörnle is an attractive hiking destination that can be reached on foot or by cable car. Enjoy the 360-degree panoramic view of the Alpine foothills with the Bavarian lakes and the peaks of the Wetterstein, Karwendel, and Ammergau Alps.
Alpine farming and biodiversity
Originally, the Hörnle would have been wooded, but traditional alpine farming keeps the mountain open and the extensive cultivation of the light pastures by the alpine farmers and farmers creates the basis for a large and unique biodiversity of rare animal and plant species, such as the orchid species Man's Orchid.
Consideration for wildlife
Winter - a time of need for animals! The slopes of the Hörnle are ideal for tobogganing or ski touring when the snow conditions are right. But especially in winter, hikers, snowshoe hikers, cross-country skiers, and skiers should behave as considerately as possible to disturb wild animals like red deer as little as possible.
Red deer are actually an open-country species. These animals, which often live in herds, are very sensitive to human disturbance. During the day, they usually stay well hidden in mountain forests. Their main diet consists of grasses and herbs found in the adjacent meadows and pastures. If human disturbance continues into twilight and at night, the animals will stay in the forest longer and cause damage to the forest's regeneration. Therefore, stay on marked trails, avoid dusk, and keep your dog on a leash.
To protect wildlife, there is a twilight quiet zone in the summit area of the Mittlerer and Hinterer Hörnle, as well as on the Stierkopf and Rißberg. Please respect these zones to give the animals peace and quiet.
