The Pilate House in the heart of Oberammergau is the center for arts and crafts.
The Pilatus House is decorated with numerous Lüftl paintings, which was created in 1784 by the Oberammergau Lüftl painter Franz Seraph Zwinck, including the condemnation of Jesus by Pilate on the garden front of the house. The house owes its name to this scene.

In 1981 the Pilatushaus was to be demolished to make room for a parking lot. With the help of radio, television and monument protection, Annelies Buchwieser and her committed colleagues managed to save the house.

Until 2024, visitors to the “Living Workshop” had the opportunity to experience the various artisans to look over your shoulder and find out more about the work in conversation. In the future, this will be possible in the Lang sel. Erben building.
