Schleifmühlklamm near Unterammergau
The gorge above Unterammergau is traversed by the Schleifmühllaine, which is fed by the streams of Pürschling, Teufelstättkopf and Schartenköpfel. The stream forms several pools and waterfalls worth seeing in the 500 m long gorge, which can be reached via a secured hiking trail.

In the gorge you can see the remains of disused grinding mills, the mills of the whetstone makers that brought a lot of wealth to the place. The old craft of Whetstone making  the people of Unterammergau brought them back to life for teaching and display purposes. For this purpose, the community of Unterammergau restored a former grinding mill, which is in regular operation and can be visited.

Via the Schleifmühlklamm you can reach the old whetstone quarries, which are now one of the most beautiful geotopes in Bavaria. From the viewing platform you get a spectacular view over the Pulvermoos in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park.

Enjoy the magical atmosphere and coolness that reigns near the water on this leisurely hike.
