There were only a few Protestants living in the Ammergau Alps, but after the First World War the Protestant church community grew significantly with the influx of refugees. At first, services were held in the entrance area of the Oberammergau Museum, but of course there was a desire for a church of their own.
In 1927, an old farmhouse in Oberammergau was purchased and its stable and barn were converted into a church.
And to this day the building still looks like a cozy farmhouse with a tower.
The small, simple church invites locals and guests to pause.
