Churches/chapels
The Fatima Chapel is a small votive chapel on a ridge in Saulgrub.

The little gem is located on the heights above Saulgrub. From up there you can see the entire northern Ammertal. This small votive chapel was built by Josef Leismiller. In 1939, as a young man, he had to go to the Second World War. Joseph vowed to build a chapel if he returned home safely from the war. After his 5 years as a prisoner of war in the Minsk camp, he returned to Saulgrub in 1949.

Four years later he went on pilgrimage to the Portuguese pilgrimage site of Fatima and brought home a statue of the Blessed Virgin of Fatima from there. With the help of a bricklayer friend, he then put his vow into practice and began building the Fatima Chapel, which was consecrated on September 12, 1954.
